Earrings. Group 4. Other Metals, Copper, Brass, Marcasite.

The Earring Groups are categories I developed for storing Mom’s jewelry so that I could find things. This Earring Group contains earrings that are made of other metals or the appearance (color) of other metals. The primary purpose of creating this group is that sometimes we have a necklace without earrings and we want the look of a “set”.
Once again, I struggled to get the “true” color of some earrings. I took separate pictures of some of the earrings.

Group Photo. Row 1. Gilded Gold-tone Leaves. Copper and Brass colored plastic. Dangles with filigree vintage looking metal, sometimes referred to as “antique gold”. Row 2. Gilded Bronze-tone circles - I could not get a picture of the “true” color or one without shadows. Copper-colored metal, the faceted circles glitter as they reflect light (clip). Vintage-inspired “antique gold” dangles. Row 3. Gilded Gold-tone teardrop dangles. Copper-colored metal, head of a zebra created using black. Vintage-inspired shades of gold and amber rhinestone and glass bead dangles. Row 4. Marcasite with faceted garnets. Marcasite. Vintage-inspired pewter or gunmetal and purple glass. Vintage-inspired shades of amber rhinestones set in “antique gold” metal.

Three-tone Metal, Gold, Copper, Silver.

Enhanced Brass Circles, dangles of various semi-precious stones make them very versatile. There was a necklace that went with it but it was corroded because it was stored in a wet basement, I took it apart, saving the semi-precious stones.

Milk-chocolate Dangles. I’m as certain as I can be that they are made of glass covered with a finish meant to resemble “hammered” metal. Tried several times to get a good photo but they always turned out looking like dark-chocolate colored poop. Who knows, they could end up being the perfect earrings to go with a particular necklace.

Large Aztec or Mayan style teal and copper-tone earrings.

I included this pair of earrings as an example, I will be taking them apart so that I can use the good pieces in making other jewelry. Note that the copper bead on the right has sections of darkened color. When I was a jewelry designer, I used to order groups of necklaces from a jewelry company in India made using metals such as sterling, brass and copper. For the most part, I took them apart and used the beads in making jewelry. I had to examine them closely because some of the brass beads would be corroded and some of the copper beads unevenly colored. Most of the sterling was shiny when it arrived but some were tarnished. The shiny sterling quickly tarnished and had to be polished to restore the shine - some beads still had darkened areas. I didn’t know, until researching Mom’s jewelry, that there are different grades of Sterling Silver, evidently they used Sterling of a lower grade (look for a 925 marking). All Sterling tarnishes (all metals will eventually tarnish, except for pure Gold). Quality Sterling can be restored to its original shine without variations in color (dark areas) by polishing or by dipping in a solution made specifically for Sterling jewelry. This entry serves as an FYI, before you purchase, examine the metal parts of jewelry.
