Vintage Pearl Chokers

Vintage Pearl Chokers

Vintage Pearl Chokers pictured together so you can compare the color. Pearl necklaces come in various colors and the right one will flatter your skin tone. They are all Glass beads except for the 2nd on from the left. Note that it is white and doesn't have the warm tone of the glass pearls. It is very lightweight. The glass pearls have weight to them that just plain feels good. 16" - 18". 19" - 22". 17" - 18.5". 19".  All are hand-knotted which has several advantages: stronger, the string won't stretch or break (when not hand-knotted, and the string breaks, you are chasing beads); coating won't chip off at the ends of the beads. All of these Chokers are mine, purchased at antique stores when I was a jewelry designer. I used the beads to mix with other beads. The problem with most vintage Pearl Chokers is the original clasp is usually discolored. I have replaced all the original clasps. I also cleaned all of them with Dawn dish soap.

Vintage Pearl Choker. Graduated. 18" Glass.

Vintage Pearl Choker. Graduated. 18" Glass. I replaced the original clasp because it was discolored (see below). I used a magnetic clasp.

Discolored Clasp.

Vintage. Classic Faux Pearl (Glass) Choker. Traditional “Coming of Age” or special occasion gift. Age and wear have weakened, stretched and frayed the thread. This choker was in Mom's Jewelry Collection. Obviously a favorite. I cleaned it in Dawn dish soap because it was sticky. There were other Pearl chokers in Mom's Collection that I threw away because the finish was chipped off the ends of the beads, which often happens when they are not hand-knotted between beads.

Stretched thread. The clasp is also discolored (brown, rusty color). Someday, I may re-string it.

Vintage restringing kit. Thread, flexible metal needle, closure clasp and loop. I have six of these kits. They were in Mom's Jewelry Collection. My aunt, Wilma Campbell, had a variety store and these are some of the items I've found that came from her store. I also have three rhinestone necklace or bracelet extenders from Wilma's store. I'm certain that some other pieces of jewelry in Mom's Jewelry Collection also came from her store.
