Earrings Group 8. Gold and Silver Hoops. PVC ziplock bags.
3-Ring Binder for Travel and Jewelry Storage; comes with clear pages with pockets and PVC ziplock bags in two sizes.
When I saw the binder on Amazon, I thought it would be useful for Jewelry Revival Parties - they could be passed around.
What I learned. Pros and Cons.
Pros. The PVC ziplock bags are clear, so that you can easily see what’s inside; they are also thicker than the standard ziplock baggies available. They have a tight seal for protecting jewelry from moisture and tarnish (caused by exposure to air). They work well for most hook earrings and hoop earrings. They also work well for small pendant necklaces.
Cons. I didn’t like the original binder; the cover didn’t lay flat. Instead, I used binders I had on hand. The holes in the pages catch on the binder rings. I tried stick-on rings but they regularly fall off when I turn the pages. I will try to find some with stronger adhesive or try a binder where the binder rings open in the back, not the center.
The ziplock bags don’t work with post earrings, unless the posts can be turned on their side. When pages are turned, dangles and chains slide around.
Knowing how difficult it is to get good photos of metal earrings, I decided to leave them in the pockets of the binder pages. I was surprised when they turned out so well. You get an idea of the size, shape and color, pattern when there is one. You can copy the photos and zoom for a better view.
